Somers Point Bay area the subject of Greate Bay exhibit
“Bridges, Boats and Things That Float: Images of Bayside Somers Point, NJ, the Artists of Great Bay Gallery Project for 2008,” will be on exhibit from Wednesday, July 23 until Sept. 6 at Great Bay Gallery, 829 Bay Ave., Somers Point.
The exhibit will feature the works of 20 artists in a variety of media and styles that portray views from Bay Avenue, looking toward Great Egg Harbor Bay including those of the 9th Street Bridge, marinas, piers and boats that ply the bay waters as well as the natural environment of the bay.
The exhibit will also show the work of several area poets who have written verses that celebrate the bay and will be exhibited side by side with the paintings.
The meet-the-artists reception for the exhibit will be held from 5 – 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8 with readings by the participating poets and with music provided by Hank Marek on keyboard. The reception is free and open to the public.

Arts Trolley from Ocean City to Millville to benefit The Arc
A trolley ride from Ocean City to Millville’s Glasstown Arts District will be held on Friday, July 18 and Friday, Aug. 15, with all proceeds from the trip benefiting The Arc of Atlantic County’s art program for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The trolley rides are being held in conjunction with the Glasstown Arts District’s monthly “3rd Friday Art Walk”.
The trolley leaves at 4:30 p.m. from Grind Garage, 910 Asbury Ave., Ocean City (next to Denovum) and arrives at de Casa do Felize Artes gallery, 112 E. Mulberry St., Millville. Participants will tour the gallery at de Casa do Felize, then explore the Glasstown Arts District for more art viewing, shopping and dining. The trolley heads back to Ocean City from Millville at 9:30 p.m.
The cost is $25 per person and includes coffee at Grind Garage and a glass of wine at de Casa do Felize Artes. The event will be hosted rain or shine. For reservations, call (609) 814-9084.
Milleville’s Glasstown Arts District was recently voted one of America’s Top Ten “Great Towns for Working Artists” and top five “Fun Downtowns in NJ.”
The Arc of Atlantic County is a private nonprofit organization that has been providing valuable services to children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families since 1961. The Arc serves approximately 700 people in a variety of programs. Residential programs include group homes, supervised apartments and supported living options. Many consumers are living in the community with their families and receive case management and family support/respite services. Other community-based programs include the popular recreational programs, supported employment services and advocacy.

returns to Ocean Galleries in Stone Harbor
Artist Peter Max, whose most memorable work includes the eye-popping illustrations in the Beatles’ film “Yellow Submarine,” returns to Ocean Galleries in Stone Harbor for another exciting showing of his colorful, bold and expressive paintings Saturday, July 26 and Sunday, July 27. The “Celebration of Harmony” exhibition will feature new original art work done especially for this show along with the iconic imagery that has made him a world-renowned legend.
“For nearly 10 years, the gallery has hosted Peter Max and his incredible artwork for a July exhibition. Last year, we had some scheduling conflicts and couldn’t work out dates, and it was just amazing how many customers and shore visitors asked where he was,” said gallery owner Kim Miller. “We are so delighted to welcome Peter back to Stone Harbor. His art exhibitions at our gallery have a rock ‘n roll, high- energy vibe that is incomparable!”
Peter Max and his vibrant colors have become part of the fabric of contemporary culture. He has been successively called a pop icon, neo fauvist, abstract expressionist and the United State's "Painter Laureate." His paintings have been on exhibition in hundreds of museums and galleries worldwide.
Max has achieved his place in history having painted for various heads of state, including six U.S. presidents. His art appeared on the first U.S. 10-cent stamp bearing the title “Preserve the Environment,” and 235 U.S. Border murals greeting millions of people entering America each year. America’s preeminent pop artist was the official artist for the 2006 U.S. Olympic Team. His art appears on a Boeing 777 jumbo jet currently flying the skies for Continental; a 600-foot stage for the Woodstock Music Festival; and many other iconic settings. Max has also been designated official artist of five Super Bowls, six Grammy Awards, the World Cup USA, The World Series, the United Nations Earth Summit, and numerous other events. Most recently, he has become an art correspondent for “The Early Show” (CBS).
The “Celebration of Harmony” exhibition will feature over 100 pieces of his art, including original paintings, drawings, and limited-edition prints. The subject matter of the work ranges from the well known "Cosmic" images, to his famous iconic paintings, such as the “Statue of Liberty,” and "Flag with Heart," as well as new images such as beach scenes that Peter created specifically for this Jersey Shore event. All artwork is available for acquisition.
“Celebration of Harmony” is free and will open to the public at Ocean Galleries (9618 Third Ave., Stone Harbor) on Saturday, July 27 and run through Sunday, July 28. Max will make personal appearances at two intimate receptions to sign and personalize his purchased pieces on Saturday, July 26 from 7-10 p.m. and Sunday, July 27 from 1-4 p.m.
After the initial weekend exhibition, a limited amount of Max’s art will remain at Ocean Galleries through Sunday, Aug. 3.
