Noyes program celebrates freedom

      “Lincoln’s Birthday Party – What Freedom Means to Me” will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 20 at the Noyes Museum of Art on Lily Lake Road, off Route 9 in Galloway Township. The free Creative Sparks Program is open to ages 6-12. Families are welcome to attend the program, held in honor of Lincoln’s 201st birthday, to sing “Happy Birthday,” eat cake and paint a section for a giant paper Freedom Quilt. Participants may add their section to the quilt or take it home.
     The Freedom Quilt is made up of over 100 four-inch squares created at Atlantic County Library programs and at Mainland High School last spring. It is being displayed in the Noyes Museum of Art Young-at-Art Gallery throughout February.
Books and posters from the Atlantic County Library’s 2009 “We the People: Created Equal” grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities in cooperation with the American Library Association are also displayed.

     “Scenes from Egg Harbor Township” Juried Art Show to celebrate the township’s tercentennial birthday at Cygnus Creative Arts Centre, 5045 English Creek Ave. in Egg Harbor Township. Submissions will be accepted 1-4 p.m. Feb. 27 at the Egg Harbor Township Municipal Building. The show is open to all artists who have completed work depicting scenes in Egg Harbor Township past and present. Categories include: works under glass, works not under glass and sculpture.      “Winter Wonders” Art Exhibit through March 2 at The Galloway Cultural Arts Center at the Galloway Township branch of the Atlantic County Library on Jimmie Leeds Road. GCAC members have selected pieces they would like to showcase and offer for sale. Exhibit may be viewed during library hours 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday and Saturday. For information call (609) 652-2418.     
     “Herbert Pullinger: A Cape May Historical Journey” through March 23 at the Atlantic City Airport’s ArtPort. Exhibit offers a pictorial account of Cape May’s natural and manmade environment in the mid-20th century and includes 15 watercolor paintings of Cape May’s fishing and lodging industries, churches, neighborhoods and landscapes.
     “Transduction: Myths of the Sea and the Solar Boat” through May 23 at the Noyes Museum of Art. The museum is open 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon-5 p.m. Sunday. It is 1 1/2 miles south of Historic Smithville Village, off Route 9, on Lily Lake Road in Galloway Township. Admission is $4 for adults and $3 for seniors and students.
     “What Were They Thinking: 160 Years of Bad Taste” ongoing exhibit at the gallery at the Emlen Physick Estate, 1048 Washington St. in Cape May. From hoop-skirted ladies and the tendency to ornament the ornaments in the Victorian era, to the 1950s beehive hairdos and tailfins, to today’s over-the-top bling and pocketbook dogs, this exhibit looks at how styles change with the times.
